Columbia Sportswear finally launches eComm site
by Brian Baldwin on Aug.04, 2009, under apparel, web

Anyone who grew up in the northwest, or pretty much anywhere there is snow, has heard of Columbia Sportswear. However if you’re under 30, chances are we only know it because our parents had it. But the thing is they liked it that way. I mean if you think about it, when have you ever seen a Columbia Sportswear banner add…? My point is that for a company who makes some of the best outerwear and fishing apparel in the world, their brand had gone stale. Fast forward a few years and it’s almost like they’re a completely new company. My method of thinking is that you can sell anything to anyone as long as you market it properly, but having a good product to begin with REALLY helps.
Ok so I’m getting to the point… Columbia has really picked up their game and starting today they’re in the eComm market… Not only does the site look good, but so do the products! I really think that we’re going to start seeing a lot younger people in a lot more Columbia apparel.

Oh yeah, and If you search the site hard enough you might even find some videos I’ve made
Intestines make great weapons

It seems like all I’ve been doing lately is posting videos, but I can’t help it. I should be sponsored by YouTube! Anyway, check out these ridiculous fight scenes.
Great White FTW

Seriously, wtf?! Great whites are SAVAGE!
While we’re on the subject of… savage animal attacks…. I thought I’d throw this one in for good measure.
Crazy 3D Porsche Ad
by Brian Baldwin on Jun.20, 2009, under 3D, advertising, motion graphics, vimeo
Going back to my roots, I thought I’d post some work of a somewhat local artist. I’m always surprised to see all the great work that comes out of Portland, and from rather unsuspecting fellows too. Take the two guys I used to work with at Nike for example (Marshall and Russell you know who you are). Meet them on the street: what’s up, regular ass dudes with no tats and who wear normal fitting jeans and t-shirts. Meet them in the lab and they’re turning out some of the sickest motion graphics and 3D work I’ve ever seen. Anyway, back to this guy…
This piece was just too good to pass up. I personally have never used Lightwave, but this is about as good as I’ve even seen. And forget the tech mumbo jumbo, this is a pretty bad ass Porsche commercial too! It’s ads like this that I watch and think, “This is real sick, probably cost a fortune, but where does it end up?..”
I’ve kinda been all over the place with this post, so I’ll go ahead and shut it down. Check out Stephen Fitzgerald’s Vimeo page and keep checking back for more blogs on motion graphics, video production and editing.
Minus the French, this is pretty cool
by Brian Baldwin on May.27, 2009, under art, design, motion graphics, vimeo
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a fellow motion graphic designers work on my blog, so consider this my comeback…
This dude, Max, has some pretty tuned in mo graph skittles. Most of his pieces are pretty short, but still really well done. I love the mix of live action and animation, so it seemed fitting to post this video.
Mini clips
by Brian Baldwin on Mar.03, 2009, under 3D, motion graphics
Mix short films with motion graphics and 3D, and you’ve got (you guessed it) “animated shorts”. This is a genre that doesn’t really have much outlet other than the internet and DVD featurettes, so not many people get a chance to see all the talent out there. With animated shorts being one of my favorite creative mediums, I’m going to try and post as many as I can throughout the life of this blog. Long live the unknown talent!
Both of these shorts were created by Crew 972 and directed by Alex Orrelle (he’s ex-pixar so you know he’s packin’).
Creative Inspiration
by Brian Baldwin on Mar.02, 2009, under 3D, motion graphics
Videos like this always inspire me to continue learning motion graphics and 3D. However, it’s also videos like this that make me sigh at the thought that I may never be this Judo…
